Architect. A pioneer of 20th-century modem art, he was the founder of the Viennese School of Architecture. He became a member of Viennese Secession group in 1899. Among others, Leopold Bauer, Josef Maria Olbrich and Josef Hoffmann were among his disciples. His most important buildings include the synagogue in Rumbach Sebestyén street, Budapest (1875), apartment buildings in Vienna and Budapest, and the Post Office Savings Bank in Vienna (1904-06).
