Norwegian painter, sculptor and designer. He studied painting in Italy and Paris. He moved to Paris in
1886 and studied under Ernest Carriére (Strasbourg, 1858 – Paris, 1908; French painter and modeller,
manager of J. Th. Deck’s factory.) He produced designs for a number of bronze foundries and
ceramics factories. After 1900 he lived in Rome, while his ceramics workshop was in his villa at
Heimbergthun (Switzerland). He produced and manufactured coloured, ’’engobe” lead-glazed
ceramics. Besides vases and plates he manufactured portraits and grotesque figures. He participated at
the International Arts and Crafts Exhibition ofT\irin.Also,:he tried out his skills in other fields of the
applied arts: he designed metal objects and jewellery. He carried out a famous experiment with
coloured glass vessels at the Fratelli Toso firm around 1915.
