German painter and interior designer. Studied at the Academy of Düsseldorf from 1891, then went on
to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. He was among the founders of the Vereinigte
Werkstátten fiir Kunst im Handwerk in Munich in 1897. He held an exhibition in Dresden in 1899
and he displayed his designs at the Paris International Exhibition of 1900, as well as at St Louis in
1904. He was also employed by Jugend, a Munich-based periodical. After 1902 he was the director of
Stuttgart’s State College of Industry. Besides furniture, he also designed stage sets.
