Austrian painter, graphic artist, designer. One of the founders of the Secession group (he left it in 1905) and of the Wiener Werkstatte. He provided illustrations for the periodical Ver Sacrum and was a close colleague of Josef Hoffmann. He engaged in just about every field of applied arts and graphics: he designed furniture, jewellery and metal, glass and pottery work, besides producing illustrations, commercial designs, picture postcards and bookplates.
