Designer and teacher. An extremely versatile artist, he earned a reputation mainly as a graphical artist,
book designer and stage-set designer, with paramount importance attaching to his teaching work. He
was in charge of the bookbinding workshop at Budapest’s Technical Drawing School from 1906 until
1919, when he was dismissed on account of his political involvement in the Council Republic of
1919. After that he founded his private school, which later gained quite a reputation. The entire
structure of the training there was geared to the development of the applied arts, most notably the
design of ornamentation. After 1935 he was the stage designer of the National Theatre. In 1942 he
created the first animated cartoon in Hungary.
