Horti, Pál (1865 - 1907)

An outstanding master of the Hungarian Secession, mainly designing furniture, interior decorations, ceramic objects and items for everyday use; he also experimented with enamel works. He had success at the world exhibitions: in 1902 in Turin and in 1904 in St Louis he was among the curators of the Hungarian pavilion. He made long journeys in Central Asia, the Far East and even in Central America: he was looking for the origins and parallelism of Hungarian ornamental motifs. He died in Bombay, during a journey in Asia. Among Hungarian applied artists of the period it was Horti who enjoyed the greatest international acclaim.
