Dufréne, Maurice (1876 - 1955)

French designer. Most of what we know of his work concerns his stay in Germany. Working for the Munich company Vereinigten Werkstatte für Kunst im Handwerk, he created elegant silver decorations for bronze objects furnished with a special type of glaze. The ornamental vase exhibited here provides a good illustration of his work for the German company. Along with several other of his similarly high- quality creations, the vase, which was executed by Jakab Rapoport, earned the artist a gold medal at the International Arts and Crafts Exhibition in Turin.
