Day, Lewis Foreman (1845 - 1910)

Designer, writer and university lecturer. He studied in Brighton, France and Germany. Between 1865
and 1870 he designed stained glasses; after 1870, he also designed textile, tapestry, embroidery,
carpet, ceramic tiles and book covers. In 1881 he became the art director of the textile printing
company, Turnbull & Stockdale of Manchester and in 1888 he was among the founding members of
the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society. He wrote a number of books on ornamental drawing and
regularly published articles in various periodicals.
