Slightly chipped rim, scratches over the eozin glaze. The square tile is decorated with a deeply bent head of a red poppy stem, contoured with fine blue lines. The stem curves diagonally, starting from the left corner. The soft petals are dark red. The dark bluish purple of the background turns golden purple on the right. The contour lines were covered with a special protection coating before acid etching, thus they remained glittering bright compared to the silky eozin glazes. The iridescent surface thus resembles the glasses of L.C. Tiffany. This tile is part of a “panel” series. In Décor book V of the Zsolnay factory, the series can be seen in drawing No. 4156, consisting of three rows of two tiles, placed above each other, depicting three poppy stems.
