The tapestry consists of a double composition. On the top one, there is a sunny village courtyard with colourful flowers, appearing from behind the curtain constructed of carob-pods. The hero is depicted in his full strength in the front, with the defeated wolves. The bottom picture is a detail of a cemetery, showing in the middle a grave-post inscribed with TOLDI. The tragic contrast between the two scenes is expressed in the colours: the top picture is woven with vivid, light tones, the bottom one with dark, gloomy ones. The picture is framed with a simple border of squares and rhombuses, completed with the following inscription: NAGYFALUSI ÉS SZALON- TAI TOLDI. From 1910, Sándor Nagy made several illustrations to the epic poems of János Arany, including two Toldi-illustrations now in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery (Inv.Nos. 1933-2121, 1933-2522).
