Standing cup with cover

The broad setting of the foot is decorated with filigree enamel, with rubies alternating in box-and- rub-over settings. The plinth - just like the whole surface - is covered with marble-like, greenish- brown enamel. It supports the stem, which widens at the top. The setting of the broad and flat cup is similar to that of the foot, although the ornaments are enriched with flowers of enamelled petals and pearled heads chains with pearls and rubies hang down from the setting. The cover is enamelled like marble the finial springs out of the central, filigree base, decorated with leaves and flowers and topped with a large Baroque pear enclosed by six smaller ones. The inside of the cover and the cup are gilt. It was probably these master-pieces for which Károly Bachruch was awarded the certificate of the Applied Arts Society in 1897. It remarked that he managed to apply the motifs and technique of old Hungarian jewellery on his metal masterpieces. (see Magyar Iparművészet 1897/98 p. 191.)
