Table clock

Anchor escapement. The prismatic case is engraved with pictures typical of the masters of the German Renaissance the Fall, Cain and Abel, and a symbolic picture depicting a dead tree and a serpent. The following inscriptions are engraved in majuscules under each scene: ADAM VND EVA BREC/H/ EN /DA/S GEBOT, KAIN ERSLEGT ABEL SEINEN BRVDER, ALSO IST DI/E/ WELT FORGIFT (=vergiftet) WORDEN.(Adam and Eve broke with God’s commandment, Cain slew Abel, his brother, the world was poisoned.) There is an engraved inscription on the plinth, under the dial, an admonishment to adhere to the faith: GOTTES WORT BLEIBET EWIG, ALLE DINK FORGENKLICH (= alle Dinge vergänglich)(God’s word stays eternal, everything is perishable.) 1543.
