Table cabinet

The horizontal prismatic cabinet has two doors. In the coffin-shaped closing part is a small casket with a convertible cover. On the interior of the two doors' inlays, on the ten little end faces of the drawers and the two outside inlays of the convertible cover are painted hunting scenes and landscapes with staffage figures. In the middle is a niche with a back wall mirror on the bottom is a floor covering made of dark and light squares, which produces an effect of perspective.

In the beginning of the 17th century Antwerp was the main centre for making painted cabinets in Flanders under the Spanish protectorate. In most examples the Van Kessel and Franken brothers painted detailed paintings on doors, cover plates and end faces of drawers.
