On a high moulded base St. Mary Magdalene is leaning with her knee against a dry trunk growing out of grassy ground. On the tree trunk, which serves as a reading-stand, is an open book at its foot an oil-cruet. The figure looks ecstatically at the crucifix held in her right hand. Her mouth is open and there is a skull in her left hand. Her naked bust is covered with a cloak slipped down from one of her shoulders and is fastened with a strap under her loosened hair. The cloak hangs in loose folds around her, and is ragged at her thigh.
