Mars, the god of war in classical mythology, wears his traditional Roman dress. There are battle trophies at the base of the figure. Mars wears a helmet and holds a sword in his right and a shield in his left. The colours are blue, green and yellow. The statuette shows the typical features of popular con-temporary decoration, together with some influence of Italian renaissance statuettes. It is a representation of glory in war. A more elaborate analogy can be found in the collection of the Österreichisches Museum fur Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. Marked with an H in mangane violet.
