Both the inside and the outside of the cover of the primastic box are decorated with elaborately painted genre scenes, painted in the style of Watteau. The scenes depict activities like playing music, dancing, dallying and conversation. They are painted in mangane violet, against a white enamel base. The inside of the cover shows the signature Ruffehl, but it cannot be identified as a maker's mark.
