Silk fabric - so called Florentine border with the scene of the Resurrection

The pattern is repeated one and a half times on the cloth. Christ stands on the front of his sarcophagus, his right hand raised in blessing, holding a flag with a cross in the other. He is encircled with a halo and cherubim. Two soldiers sleep at the foot of the tomb, one of them holding a shield with a scorpion on it. The border shows Christ's sacred initials among foliage. In her analysis, Ruth Grönwoldt describes six variants of the theme "The Resurrection" - the piece described above being one of these. According to G. Sangiorgi all variants had the same origin in the painting of Raffaelino del Garbo (Florence, Galleria degli Uffizi, 1503-1505). There is an identical piece in the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts (Inv. No. 7313). Variants can be found in the collection of the Civiche Raccolte d'Arte Applicata in Milan and in almost all great collections of textiles.
