The cut makes this a typical Hungarian shirt. Each of the sleeves, which are connected to the torso with linen bobbin lace, has a wide insert of bobbin lace with a wavy pattern running along its length. The hem of the sleeve is adorned with an embroidered series of alternating small, symmetrical, stylized flower bushes.
The Museum of Applied Arts purchased the shirt in 1941, from the collection of Antal Chernel. According to family lore, the shirt was a gift of Ferenc Rákóczi II to György Chernel.
