Pharmacy jar

The bowl stands on a round base the bottom starts with a band of ring and pearl decoration an incised and fluted strip follows. In the next rectangular field, with a frame imitating a mount enriched with pearls is the inscription: O EHINITfnis.VAN.IVD AS. GESCHLECHT 1591. The fluted top part is surmounted by the blue neck with linear decoration the pot ends in a splayed lip. It was thought to be from Westerwald however, this theory was revised as a result of the study by Dirk Arnold Wittop Koning: Raerener Apothekengefäasse (cf. Veröffentlichung der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Geschichte der Pharmatologie V.F./36 vol. 1970 Abb.l.). In this work, he described the analogue of the pot described above (Couven Museum, Amsterdam), as one made by master Jan Emens (Raeren 1591).
