The relief composition of three figures is framed by lines of masks and a frontispiece between pairs of columns. The picture copied the composition of Moderno in Padua the three figures are: Mary, with the body of the dead Christ, and St. John the Evangelist. The engraved majuscule inscription on the plinth is a reference to St. Paul's letter to the Romans 5:18: PIETAS AD OMNIA.
There is an analogue in the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin, and in the Basilica Monte Berico in Vicenza.
