On one side of the medallion are St. Bernard and the infant Jesus with the instruments of the Passion: the infant Jesus is sleeping on the cross, by his hands are nails and the crown of thorns. Behind him is St. Bernard, clasping the lance and sponge to his heart, pointing to the sky with his right hand. On the other side of the medallion is the infant Jesus victorious over death: he is sitting on a skull, has a cross in his right hand and lifts a waving drapery over his head with his left hand. Zoltan Szilardfy indentified the medallion as the pendant of the rosary of a Cistercian abbot or abbess on the basis of its special iconography and quality.
