A fine example of figured fabrics woven in a special form for a special purpose. It is decorated by cherubim in each corner and by the initials IHS in the middle surrounded by a flamboyant halo. The border has motifs of rosettes among diagonal leaves.
There are somewhat similar pieces, though woven vertically, in the Kunstgewerbe Museum in Cologne, which Barbara Markowsky assumes to be from 1500.
