This representative item, originally made with chaste glass inlays, is the work of one of Napoleon’s court goldsmiths, Martin Guillaume Biennais (1764–1843). On its oval base there is an acanthus belt above a leaf festoon edge. On the flat base stand six plastic heeled legs, connected by cast hooves decorated with leaves and fruit festoons. On the legs sphinxes hold the bowl formed of acanthus leaves, with fruit festoon on its edge.
