Fan

A line of jagged leaves linking together flowers with four petals borders the grisaille-painted leaf. Three medallions, each framed by a row of pearls, divide up the leaf. The medallion in the middle is a rectangle with its corners cut off, and those to either side are circular. The circular medallions depict a house nestling among trees, the middle one a lakeside house flanked by trees. On the steps of the last-mentioned house there is a small figure emptying out a bucket of water. The medallions are linked together by festoons of flowers connecting to flower-filled ornamental urns at their handles. On the verso there was once a bouquet of flowers. The sticks have varying embellishments: in the middle a young lady is listening to her sweetheart playing the lute, the next sticks and those in front of the guard-sticks are shaped like columns of flowers in between a pair of doves kissing can be seen. On the upper part of each guard-stick there is a young man playing his lute.
