The scene in the middle has a background of aedicule and landscape it is framed by balusters. Above is a scroll bearing a majuscule inscription referring to Mary: AVE MARIS ESTELLA, DEI MATER ALMA.
In the middle foreground is another scroll with an inscription referring to the washing of Christ’s feet: COMMANT NOSTRE SEN I EUR 11 IS/LAVA LES PIES AUS APOTRES. The colours of the enamel arc blue, gold, green, manganese and red. Maker's sign L L on the bottom rim refers to Leonard Limousin (c1505 - 1575) of Limoges. Experts doubt the authenticity and originality of this piece, as well as the date of manufacture.
