Frieze-shaped, with rows of larger and smaller flower stems, arranged symmetrically. There is a narcissus in the middle, a bell-flower on either side, and smaller primrose stems in between. Each stem is enriched with some wood-sorrel. The flower stems are symmetrical, with curving leaves. Due to the simple embroidery technique, the pattern is like a graphic design in pastel colours: light and slightly darker blue, pink and yellow. The piano cloth border described above, designed by E.O. Armour, was awarded a silver medal at the 1898 British National Competition.
