Dress for a statue of the Virgin Mary

For the statues of the Virgin to be dressed gowns of different colours were made, according to the liturgy. This gown, trapezoid shaped and covering the body, has a round opening for the arm holding the infant Jesus. The textile is cherry-red. The ornamentation is a lace pattern waving lengthwise on the textile, which was fashionable in the 18th century. The pattern is bordered by green leaves and white flowers with a little blue in the middle. In the curves of it are naturalistic red roses. It is trimmed with a type of chenille work in one circling row, and in five rows on the lower part. On the border are relief-like coloured flowers on a white, light and reddish brown, and a light and dark-green reticular base. The textile of the infant Jesus' gown is similar, having the same form with set-in sleeves trimmed with a row of chenille around.
