Dish - With japonaiserie (imari styled) decoration

A large, deep bowl with a lobed rim, lined with a broad stripe of lattice decoration that consists of gilt lozenges and wavy and geometrical motifs, against a cobalt background. Below the stripe are curved niches of two alternating oriental motifs, with differently coloured backgrounds: gilt, oriental flowers painted in red and violet, on a cobalt or a white base. The surface of the bowl shows a floral pattern, on which traces of the future German floral decoration can already be detected.

A high quality piece of the period of Du Paquier, showing the influence of Japanese Arita (Kakiemon, Imari) porcelain. Its decoration is similar to the tureen, exhibited under (Inv. No. 10994.) and the pot with a cover (Inv. No. 15626), both in the collections of the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts.
