The bowl has the shape of a spherical segment it stands on a short, plain, rounded foot. It is deco-rated with the so-called Esterházy pattern, which origins from Chinese porcelain-making: a blossoming stem among a few grass leaves. The outside of the rim is painted in white against a red base, while the surface is decorated with red against white. The centre shows a smaller motif, surrounded with two rows of alternating small and large patterns. The other element of the Esterházy pattern, the two lines of vertical Chinese writing, is missing from this decoration (see Inv.No. 51.1374.2.1).
