In 1899, Abt makes a large step from illustrations of reality to decorative, stylized, flat ornaments, concentrating first of all on lines and contours. The flower motifs lack any kind of shading, having clear contours. He, on the other hand, keeps his unusual and typical “vein network” on the leaves.
