New information often emerges even about well-known, much published objects, which adds to the results of previous research. This happened in the case of the famous coffee set, which its maker prepared as a gift to the family who supported his studies. Previously it was believed that this four-piece coffee set was made for the family mansion in Boldva in Gömör County, but descendants of the family have stated that Pál Szathmáry Király (1780–1852) and his wife, Anna Levai Koos (1793–1845), lived in Jánosi (Gomor County), just south of Rimaszombat (today Rimavska Sobota, Slovakia). The representative set was thus made in 1823 for the owners of the mansion in Jánosi, by József Szentpéteri (1781–1862), the greatest goldsmith of 19th century Hungary. The characteristic decorative motif, the sculpturesque figures of swans, has given the set its name, the Swan set. On the oval rim of the platter, neo-classical openwork decoration of vines and leaves run around. The two pots are only different in size. Their tall and curved bodies stand on clawed feet with acanthus leaves, and their necks are decorated with flowers and leaves. The lids have a ribbed rim, with a cast figure of swan on top. The pouring spout ends in a curved head of a bird, rising from acanthus leaves. The round foot of the sugar bowl is decorated with sedge leaves, its two handles are formed by swans. The piece was left by the Szathmáry Király family to the Csáky, later to the Máriássy family, and finally to the Museum of Applied Arts.
