In the Holics manufactory, that blossomed in the third quarter of the eighteenth century, tableware of varied shapes – soup bowls, roast and pasta dishes, plates, pots, sugar and spice bowls, cups and saucers – were made in great numbers.
A typical class of objects are shaped like life-size birds – roosters, capons, pheasants, parrots, pigeons, and various naturalia: cabbages, rose-shaped bowls, asparaguses, lemons, pineapples and artichokes. The realistically modelled statuettes are preceded by the vessels of the Strasbourg manufactory, also possessed by Francis of Lorraine.
A fine example of the faiences bringing the rich still lives on to the dining table is this basket-shaped object its cover is gently and naturalistically decorated by flowers – hyacinths, forget-me-nots, roses – and a butterfly.
