Border fragment - with cherub heads and IHS monogramm

The sacred monogram surrounded by a halo of light and flame and by cherubim, together with the foliate border with rosettes, is identical with the decoration of the hood from a cope (Cat. No. 25), although this piece was woven horizontally. Looking at similar textiles in other museums, especially in the Cologne Museum für Angewandte Kunst we can assume that the piece was originally larger and the cherubim surrounded the alternating motifs of IHS and Madonna in a vesica frame in a repeating pattern.
