The front and back plates are covered with yellow skin the decoration of both is identical. The surface is enframed by double lines, showing a broad, brown leather application, decorated with circles, leaves and dots. The centre of the surface depicts an ornamental red, oval application of leather, surrounded by a lobed, brown one plaited of Grolier ribbons. The spine is divided into six compartments by five emphasized false bands. The compartments are decorated with gilt, brown leather applications, showing a gilt title THEATRE / LYONNAIS / DE GUINOL. The bottom part of the spine presents the LYON 1865 inscription, tooled in gold. The corners of the covers are also gilt. The French-style, leather-jointed endpaper frame is tooled in gold, the paper is marbled. The cut is marbled with red and green, the headband is ochre, sewn of white and blue silk.
