Bench - cassapanca - 15th century parts built together in the late 19th century

This bench was used for sitting or lying and for storing things. It has arms and a back. The curved front is decorated with rosette intarsia, framed by fields of stars and lozenges. These star- motifs appear also on the two side pilasters under the voluted arm rests. The sides and the back have rosette decoration. These are framed by one, or at the back five, borders of alternating, twisted zigzag lines of ribbons and pearl-strings on sticks. The slightly geometrical decoration is further enriched by the upper trellis-motifs, shown in perspective.

The piece described above is probably identical with the one published by Tinti in 1927, and which was in an unknown private collection during the years between the World Wars.
