The gilt decoration of the green maroquin leather cover is identical on the front and back plates. The surface is enframed by black double lines the centre is enclosed by a stripe of applied asymmetrical Rococo cartouches of leather, gilt and painted in polychrome colours. The spine is decorated with applied leather shells and other Rococo motifs, painted in polychrome colours and gilt. The gilt title inscription Iris/1840 appears in the middle, on an oval application of red leather. The endpaper is made of yellow coated paper, the edges are gilt. The title page is a steel engraving made by Carl Mahlknecht (1810-1893), after Miklós Barabás's (1810-1898) portrait of Countess Crescencia Széchenyi. Marked with Gezeichnet v. Barabás Stahlst. v. Carl Mahlknecht. The five steel engravings illustrating the book are the following: Die Cillerthalerin im Insurrektions Kriege 1809 marked Carl Mayer gez. Stahlst. v. C. Mahlknecht in Wien. Carl Mayer (1798-1868), was a steel engraver and a publisher in Nuremberg Flora, marked Rajz Barabás Metszé Mayer Károly Nürnbergben (Drawn by Barabás, engraved by Carl Mayer in Nuremberg) Die Griechischen Mädchen, marked Phalipon del /inearit/ A. Bogner Sc/ulpsit/.
