Vase - With the so-called peacock feather decoration

The circular foot supports a bulging, pear-shaped body with a slightly narrowing neck and an indented, wavy top rim of three semicircles. The whole surface is decorated with stylized, oriental, resp. Hungarian and international Art Nouveau motifs of stylized peacock feathers. The motifs are shaded in different tones of pink, with partially etching the top pink layer of the glass. The top rim is lined with a pink stripe the whole surface is silky, iridescent. The vase in the Miksa Róth Collection, also made by István Sovánka (Inv.No. 93.1) has identical decoration. It was exhibited at the Torino international exhibition where Sovánka was awarded a Diplome de Mérite. This latter object was donated to Miksa Róth by the artist himself. It is also possible that these glasses belong to the ones referred to as “Tiffany-imitations” by contemporary critics.
