The box is made of Amboina root, with mahogany inside. The edges of the rectangular box are lined with silver, while the rim of the cover is inlaid with thin silver threads, with palmettes in the corners. The middle of the coer shows an empty escutcheon, enclosed by inlaid palm branches of silver. The middle of the front long side is equipped with a rosette-shaped but-ton, with a winged sphynx on both sides, sur-mounted by an inlaid, silver line of palmettes. The top plate of the lock is engraved with: Biennais Orf(ev)re de L(eu)rs M(ajes)tes Imp(erial)les et Roy(a)les a Paris. There is a mirror in a silver-gilt frame, on the inside of the cover. The bottom of the box is decorated with two six-pointed mother-of-pearl stars in wooden circles. There are two mahogany compartments for keeping the threads. The box is equipped with two more rectangular compartments for the following tools: thimble, measure, two pairs of scissors, a needle for threading, a socket for pencils, needle-case, pocket-knife, a crochet hook, a golden spool, decorated with punched, engraved and chiselled inlays of mother-of-pearl. The gold parts are equipped with goldsmith's marks. From its size and description, this piece is probably identical with the sewing kit that was mentioned in earlier literature as an object from a Viennese private collection from the beginning of the 20th century.
