Urna fedéllel

The goblet stands on a terraced, round foot, which ends in a square bottom. The top of the juncture ends in a splayed rim the richly decorated cup joins a slightly dented part of the rim. The cup can be divided into three units: the bottom part is lined with Roman acanthus leaves the middle shows a repousse decoration, depicting miners, while the top is lined by a narrow frieze of oak branches and miner's emblems. The conical cover is shaped like laurel leaves, with a closing lotus flower motif at the top. The scenes are the following: descending to the mine, work in the mine, miners praying, a drinking miner. Several examples of this goblet model can be found in public and private collections in Hungary and in public collections in Austria, owing to the fact that the goblet was given as a present to those who graduated from the Miner's Academy of Selmecbanya with the best degrees in the nineteenth century. Some of the pieces are decorated with red, green and black cold enamel, with a gilt rim and a white enamel inside. This goblet is the most famous and most beautiful piece of ornamental cast-iron pieces of Rhonic.
