Tureen with lid

The splayed, fluted bowl with a rising rim and a relief goat-head handle on each side stands on a jointed foot. The narrowing, fluted lid has a vase finial. The rim of the bowl and the borders of the lid are lined by reddish brown, black and green foliage. The sides show calligraphic AK initials of reddish brown. Csanyi, in his study referred to below, dates the dish to 1804, yet the manufacture of dishes covered with transparent lead glaze - like the one described above - was common at about the time creamware manufacture started, that is, at the end of the 1780's and the beginning of the 1790's. The motifs can certainly be attributed to Johann Leitl. Marked with an impressed „HOLLITSCH” on the bottom.
