The splayed, hemispherical bowl stands on a short, broad foot it has a conical cover with a finial forming an artichoke. There is a curved, scroll handle on each side of the bowl. The rims of both the bowl and the cover are decorated with a broad stripe of lattice pattern, consisting of gilt lozenges, wavy and geometrical motifs against a cobalt back-ground. The stripe is interrupted by the curved niches of two alternating oriental motifs with differently coloured backgrounds: gilt, oriental flowers, painted in red and violet, against a cobalt or white background. This is a high quality piece of the period of Du Paquier, showing the infuence of Japanese Arita (Kakiemon, Imari) porcelain. Its decoration is similar to the bowl (Inv. No. 10995.) and to the pot with a cover (Inv. No. 15626), both in the collections of the Budapest Museum of Applied Arts.
