It is a representative object type of the late classicism showing Empire style marks. It must have been commissioned by a nobleman oral tradition attributes it to Palatine Joseph (1796–1847). The grand tableware was auctioned in 1931 some of its parts that were recovered – food heaters, roast and sauce pans and candlesticks – were acquired by the Museum of Applied Arts in purchases performed over various years. This tureen, considerable in size and weight, consists of four parts: the stand, the bowl, the heater and the lid. The bulging central part of its oval, dented stand features applied and chased decorations. The body has legs shaped like four faun figures, with two rectangular handles. The sides feature a cast frieze of masks, putti and animal figures, while fruit tendrils and repoussé flower bunches are growing out of its lid.
