The surface of the octagonal tray is decorated with the allegorical representation of Caritas (Love, a Christian virtue): a female figure sitting in a garden, offering her breasts to two small children. A bird flies towards them on the right. Above the scene is the inscription: ACH LAST MICH MEINE KINDER / SEIGEN / WIES DIE LIEB DUT HIER ZEIGEN (Ah, let me suckle my children as like the Love shown here). The scene is painted in manganese the parts of the bodies are coloured in light iron-red. Marked on the bottom of the tray: H in grey.
