Front: CVRRE CITO, CORNVTVS ENIM CLAMORIB9 INSTAT = run quickly, the antlered husband shouts behind us. A young man, wearing a hat, carries a woman on his back, whose dress is lifted up by an old man with antlers. The old man strikes her bottom with a brush in his hand. Marked: MB.
Back: FELICITAS VENETIAE = the happiness of Venice. A winged putto holds a ribbon inscribed with the words mentioned above. Below him the view of Venice appears.
Originally, the picture on the back of the disc was probably designed for a battle medal. In 1680, as a member of the Holy League, Venice recaptured a large part of her Greek territories from the Turks. This illustration might have been made on the occasion of this triumph over the Ottoman Empire. There are two discs, one with a version of the front, and another with a picture identical with the back decoration, in the collections of the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich. The disc described above belongs to the draught board exhibited with Inv. No. 5012.
