Tile

The small, square tile is decorated with a relief scroll, enriched with a domed spot in each corner. The surface is covered with a one-colour eozin glaze, which, gathered in the dents, contours the golden shade of the domed patterns with green. The tile is listed under No. 3603 in the Zsolnay Terracotta book 12, produced first for the Budapest Beer Brewer Company. Architect: Loránd Almási Balog. The first date: 21/ VII.092, the last date of the enlisted ten reorders: “1937 IX.18.” (This small tile can also be found as decoration element on the staircase walls of large block of flats in Budapest, so it was fairly popular for a long time.) The text of the production calculation tells us that they used Matte eozin paint for the covering of the tile (’’eosin matt grün”), which was fired four times (raw firing, glaze firing and twice eozin firing). A larger variant of the same tile is numbered 3928 in the Terracotta book.
