The plain, square surface with voluted corners shows a contoured, rounded picture: lovers in a stormy wood. The young man in short coat hugs the young woman wearing a long dress, with his right. His raised left hand is pointing out of the picture. Below, a bolt of lightning flashes from the dark sky towards the ground. The cut is printed in brown, shaded with light grey, yellow and dirty green. Two of the four broad, central stripes of the border show inscriptions: « SUMMER» in the center top and CELADON &AMELIA in the bottom center. The inscriptions suggest that this tile is one of a series, depicting the allegories of the four seasons. According to Austwick, it is the fifth of a twelve-piece series called Thompson's Seasons designed by J. Moyr Smith - the most productive and one of the most well-known designers of the Minton factory. It was also manufactured in sepia-ink and monochrome grey versions. Model number 1843e.
