The carved ivory relief represents a battle scene of several figures. The decoration of the cover is a cast bunch of grapes and foliage. The relief may bear some relationship to the works of similar type of J. H. Hornung, active in Schwabisch Gmünd in the last two decades of the 18th century and, according to Christian Theuerkauff, could even be provisionally attributed to this master.
