The upturned bell-shaped bowl stands on a stem of eight faceted sides, which is supported by a broad, faceted, octagonal foot showing stylised leaf motifs. The cup is again faceted into eight sides one is decorated with an oval medallion showing the "sulphide" portrait of Napoleon. He is portrayed like the antique emperors, that is, in profile, with a laurel wreath around his head. The opposite side shows the badge of the Legion of Honour, founded by Napoleon in May 1802, made of gold foil with red and green enamel.
