The bearded man is hanging on the cross with his arms stretched backwards, his head drooping, his fingers cramped, his legs are hanging loosely. He wears a loin-cloth. This is the figure of the "repentant thief", who had confessed his sins before his death and therefore was forgiven. It might once have been a part of a Crucifixion group, together with its companion piece (Cat. 1.42.).
