Nearly the whole exterior of the oval box is covered with enamel. The cover shows a miniature portrait, painted over ivory, of a woman dressed in Empire-style, clothes. It is placed under a glass plate, in a chased oval frame of gold. The other parts of the box are decorated with greyish blue enamel the borders are enriched with light blue and white stripes. The side shows vertical lines of decoration at four places: a light blue vase against a white background. Town and duty marks on the inside of the cover and the box
